The driver of a bus that caught fire in Taiwan on July 19 and killed 26 people was confirmed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, but whether the fatal accident was caused by the self-immolation of the drunk driver or a discharged wire remains uncertain, Taiwan authorities said Friday.

7月19日台湾游览车失火致26人死亡一案的司机被确认为酒后驾车。但这场重大意外是酒驾司机的自焚之举，还是电线走火所致，我们不得而知，台湾官方人士说道。

Wang Yi-wen, deputy chief prosecutor of the Taoyuan district Prosecutors Office, told the press that investigators drew the conclusion after analysis of the driver’s blood, urine and stomach contents.

王以文，桃园地方检查署代表，告知报社，调查人员是通过分析司机的血液、尿液和胃内容物得出的结论。

According to prosecutors, the driver’s blood alcohol content level was 0.215 percent, far surpassing the 0.05 percent legal threshold set by local regulations.

据检察官所言，司机血液中的酒精含量为0.215%，远远超过地方法规规定0.05的合法阈值。

Wang said the case was serious and the driver had committed a crime, the Xinhua News agency reported.

Drugs, including opium and sleeping pills, were not detected during the analysis, according to investigators.

调查人员表示，检验并未测出鸦片、安眠药等药物。

"We attach high importance to the investigation, and we have repeatedly demanded Taiwan discover the causes of and responsibility for the accident," An Fengshan, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs office of the state Council, said Friday.

在本周五，国务院台湾事务办公室发言人称，“我们高度重视这次的调查，并不断要求台湾方面找出这次事故的原因及责任方。”

Everyone on board the bus was killed when it crashed into a highway barrier and caught fire near Taoyuan Airport. They included 23 tourists and a tour guide from the mainland, a Taiwan driver and a local tour guide.

事故车在撞上桃园机场附近的高速公路护栏后起火，车上人员罹难，包括23名大陆游客跟一名大陆导游，两名本地司机跟导游。

According to Taoyuan’s local procuratorate, follow-up investigation will focus on whether the accident was caused by the self-immolation of the drunk driver, while they also cannot rule out the possibility of an electrical discharge, Taiwan-based news website udn.com reported.

桃园地方检察官称，接下来的调查会聚焦于事故是酒驾司机自焚之举还是没能事先排除失火电线造成的可能性，台湾联合新闻网报道。
