FBI Deputy director Andrew McCabe, who has drawn criticism from US president Donald Trump because of alleged political bias, has stepped down from his current role on Monday, according to multiple US media reports.

According to CBS News, McCabe was forced to step down and his leave came several weeks earlier than his expected retirement date.

The White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Donald Trump was not involved in McCabe's decision to exit.
