娜塔莉.波特曼拒领“犹太诺贝尔奖”引争议

Natalie Portman, the Oscar-winning actress known for roles in movies such as “Black Swan” and the “Star Wars” prequels, has backed out of a major award ceremony meant to honor her in Jerusalem.

近期，曾主演《黑天鹅》（Black Swan）和《星球大战》（Star Wars）前传等多部电影的奥斯卡影后娜塔莉.波特曼已取消参加在耶路撒冷为表彰她而举行的一个重要的颁奖典礼。

Her representative said that "recent events in Israel have been extremely distressing to her and she does not feel comfortable participating in any public events in Israel” and that “she cannot in good conscience move forward with the ceremony”.

波特曼的发言人说：“近期发生在以色列的许多事件让她大受打击，因此她不愿意出席以色列的任何公开活动”，而且“她无法问心无愧地参加这场典礼。”

Portman, who was born in Jerusalem and holds dual Israeli and US citizenship, was named in November last year as the recipient of the 2018 Genesis award, a yearly prize dubbed the "Jewish Nobel" to recognise individuals “who have attained excellence and international renown in their chosen professional fields” and “who inspire others through their dedication to the Jewish community and Jewish values”.

Portman did not initially elaborate, leading many to interpret her decision as stemming from the protests along Israel’s border with Gaza, in which about three dozen Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire over the past four weeks.

起初，波特曼并未详细说明她拒绝领奖的原因，很多人因此猜测这可能和过去四周以色列开枪镇压加沙走廊，导致三十多名巴勒斯坦抗议者丧生的事件有关。

Portman’s decision, which she said was “mischaracterized by others,” had caused a backlash in Israel after organizers of the Genesis Prize award ceremony said they canceled the prize-giving.

Last Friday, however, Portman issued a statement saying that her objection was to the scheduled presence of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, who was to be giving a speech at the ceremony.

In her statement, Portman said: “I am not part of the B.D.S. movement and do not endorse it. Like many Israelis and Jews around the world, I can be critical of the leadership in Israel without wanting to boycott the entire nation.”

在声明中，波特曼表示：“我并不是BDS运动（反以色列活动）的一份子，也并不认同它。和世界上许多以色列人及犹太人一样，我可以批判以色列领导人，但并不是想抵制这整个国家。”

“Israel,” she said, “was created exactly 70 years ago as a haven for refugees from the Holocaust. But the mistreatment of those suffering from today’s atrocities is simply not in line with my Jewish values. Because I care about Israel, I must stand up against violence, corruption, inequality, and abuse of power.”

Portman has previously expressed criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu. In 2015, following his reelection, she said in an interview that she was “very much against Netanyahu” and “was very upset and disappointed that he was re-elected” and found “his racist comments horrific”.

In light of her Instagram statement, it seems as though Portman could have been referring to another fraught issue — the debate over what Israel should do with thousands of African migrants.

Her cancellation drew angry denunciations from several prominent Israelis and Jewish leaders. She was also hailed by pro-Palestinian activists for taking a stand against the Jewish state and its ongoing treatment of Palestinians, and criticized by Israelis for falling victim to the BDS Movement.

The Genesis Foundation, however, said it was "very saddened" that Portman had decided not to attend the ceremony in Jerusalem for "political reasons."

We fear that Ms Portman’s decision will cause our philanthropic initiative to be politicised, something we have worked hard for the past five years to avoid, it said.
